The Mechanics of Living Materials Lab led by Dr. Sohan Kale is housed in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Virginia Tech. Our research revolves around mechanics of materials at the intersection of biology and engineering. Our current research revolves around mechanobiology of cells and tissues. Specifically, we use computational modeling at multiple scales to understand cellular and tissue-scale behaviors important in development, physiology, pathology, and emerging bioengineering technologies.

Research Openings: (Spring and Fall 2023)

Interested graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to send an email to Dr. Kale with their CV and research interests. Strong background in continuum mechanics and computational methods is desired. Prior experience in biology or biophysics is not a must.
